2019 brings new challenges, new opportunities and new leadership to our UC ANR Strategic Initiatives. Please join us in welcoming our new leaders for two of our five initiatives.

The Strategic Initiatives (SI) play a key role in building our umbrella by Unifying, Communicating, and advocating to promote the science and impact of the work of UC ANR.
Our two new leaders join a team with a range of initiatives underway for 2019 including:

Being able to connect is key to the success we in UC ANR enjoy in developing and providing solutions to help the people of California.
Please provide your input (see #3 under "Where are we?) to see how we might do this even better.
A summer survey to PT leaders and WG chairs asked for input on how we currently connect (and our current structure).
The three main findings were:
1. Our current structure (roles of Workgroups (WG), Program Teams (PT) and Strategic Initiatives (SIs)) is - shall we say - somewhat “fuzzy”.
2. Even with the lack of clarity on WG, PT and SI functions, people greatly value the opportunities to engage and interact.

ANR academics are invited to apply for Strategic Initiative leader positions, which play key roles in unifying, communicating and advocating to strengthen UC ANR's research and outreach agenda. Given the ongoing evolving role of the UC ANR Strategic Initiatives (SI), the SI leaders agreed that it would again be beneficial to conduct an open search - from across the breadth of expertise of the division - for the next rotation of SI leaders.

The future leaders
The strategic initiative leaders play a key role in unifying, communicating and advocating to promote the science and impact of the work of UC ANR. A key undertaking for the SI leaders in 2018 will be to revisit and evolve the role of the initiatives themselves, identifying how the strategic initiatives can better help us advance the UC ANR agenda of touching the lives of 40 million Californians.

Nov. 6 is the last day for ANR academics to apply for one of the open Strategic Initiative leader positions.
Three SI leader positions are scheduled to rotate off, opening up opportunities for other ANR academics to take the lead for Endemic and Invasive Pests and Diseases, Sustainable Food Systems and Sustainable Natural Resources.
