Dear UC Cooperative Extension Colleagues,
We are soliciting nominations for the Western Extension Leadership Development VII program, which will begin in 2013. The 15-month professional development program is designed for Cooperative Extension faculty, advisors, educators and specialists in the western United States and territories.
In the WELD program, participants learn and apply leadership skills. Objectives for the participants include:
- Developing awareness and appreciation of their own and others’ leadership styles and learning to apply appropriate techniques in working with individuals.

Registration is now open for the UC ANR Water Strategic Initiative Conference and program team meetings being held Nov. 14-15 at the Activities and Recreation Center at UC Davis.
The theme of the conference is “Water: Opportunities and Challenges.” At the conference, participants will share information about water-related research and will be encouraged to look for opportunities for collaboration.
The water panel will also seek input on the Draft Strategic Initiative on Water Plan, which will be posted at http://ucanr.edu/sites/water at least two weeks prior to the conference.

Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that ANR’s 2012 competitive grants program will fund 16 projects, for a total of approximately $5 million over 5 years. The awards range in value from $46,226 to nearly $600,000. Last year we funded 19 projects with $4.46 million over 5 years.

The Water Strategic Initiative panel is inviting ANR academics to give short presentations about their research at the 2012 Water Strategic Initiative Conference on Nov. 14-15 in Davis.
If you would like to present a five-minute summary of your research as it relates to water topics, please submit a title and short description of two or three sentences (300 words maximum) to http://ucce.ucdavis.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=9152 by Sept. 25.
