I am pleased to announce that ANR has accepted a proposal from UC Riverside to house the Water Resources Center Archive. Developed in collaboration with CSU San Bernardino, the amount of organizational work and collaboration between UC and CSU in developing this proposal was impressive.
While the archives will be housed on both campuses, the two facilities are located near each other and their collections are complementary. The funding will be stable and the institutional support is impressive. It is highly likely that the evidenced support from both campus communities will lead to additional funding sources. The ANR Staff Personnel Unit (SPU) within the Office of the Associate Vice President-Business Operations is the principal department for staff personnel matters for all ANR county-based and other off-site units and provides staff personnel services in these areas:
- Classification
- Compensation
- Recruitment
- Employment
- Employee and labor relations
- Interpretation of UC system-wide personnel policies
- Collective bargaining agreements
- People Administration -- Classification Applicant Tracking System

The Executive Working Group has been notified that ANR is receiving an increase in USDA Smith-Lever funding, and has directed these funds in FY 2010-11 to program development by advisors and program representatives. These funds will be allocated to county directors in the amount of $1,000 per advisor and $500 per program representative, regardless of their source of funding.
These funds are to be used in support of professional development expenses such as professional travel to meetings, conference registration, seminars and in-service trainings. Use of these funds will be approved by each county director.

On July 1, ANR and the Sea Grant program officially complete the transition announced last fall. Formerly called Sea Grant advisors, Jodi Cassell and Leigh Taylor Johnson will remain with ANR as coastal resources advisors. Other Sea Grant advisors – Carrie Culver, Monique Myers, Paul Olin, Carrie Pomeroy, Susan Schlosser and Rick Starr – will now be part of the Sea Grant College at UC San Diego.

Dear Colleagues,
We have completed the merit and promotion cycle for 2009-2010. More than 80 actions were processed statewide for UC ANR academics.
I am grateful to the academics who served on the Senior Administrative Council (SAC) this cycle – Peggy Mauk, Linda Manton, Bill Frost, Steve Vasquez, Terry Salmon and Lucia Kaiser. This University service is extraordinary and allowed the process some stability during this time of transition.
