The 59th annual Weed Day at UC Davis will be held next week on Thursday July 16th. It's not too late to register but there are only a few spots left before we reach capacity.
CE Specialist Joe DiTomaso is the Weed Day chair this year and he has organized a great morning field tour where we'll look at on-going herbicide trials in tomato, melon, safflower, and nut orchards. The journal California Agriculture recently published a special issue on research and extension efforts related to the University's Endemic and Invasive Pests and Diseases strategic initiative.
The subtitle of the special issue is: How UC and it's collaborators detect, contain, and manage (pests and diseases). There are six articles under three headings: Excluding Pests and Pathogens, Managing Newly Established Pests, and Maintaining Long-Term Management. Table of contents available HERE.

For the past couple of years, an important postemergence herbicide active ingredient, glufosinate-ammonium, used in orchards and vineyards has been in pretty short supply (see my earlier post about Rely 280 scarcity).
This was largely due to supply issues caused by unexpectedly high demand in the South and Midwest due by herbicide resistant weeds (particularly Palmer amaranth).
