HEY!
Look at this- an IT nerd, OUTSIDE!
Earlier this week, Blaine Sullivan (closest in picture) and I (using the camera) went down to the Kearney Ag Center/KREC/KARE to site a new wireless network antenna.
We walked on gravel.
We climbed ladders.
We went on the roof.
This may not seem like much to most people, but you need to understand- the most activity we ever get is occasionally unplugging a cable...and we usually take a break before plugging it back in.
For those of us who work in a virtual world, going outside is a real treat. In fact, we almost got rained on. (Does this ever actually happen to people? Does it hurt?)
The most important thing though, is WHY we are at KARE trying to site a new wireless network antenna.
We're trying to upgrade their network speed, and save them money. We should be able to get them from a 4.5mbps connection to 30.0, or even 50.0 mbps. That's quite an increase. And it will cost less money.
If you are off campus right now, I know what you're thinking: "Hey! How can I get in on that action!"
I don't have much of an answer yet. But I can tell you that Kearney is a big facility, with a lot of people. With so many people on a slow connection, we need to make them a priority. After we're done at Kearney we will look at other connections throughout the Division to see what types of improvement are possible.
Back to our outdoor adventure...
After our perilous climb, during which I smacked my head on a low door, drawing real-life blood, (That never happens in the Matrix!) we were famished. So we went back to things we know about...our real area of expertise.
By the way that chile looks Amazing!
Good luck with the wifi upgrade 50Mbps :-O !!
