Become a 4-H Adult Volunteer

Grown

Volunteers play a vital role in the ongoing growth and development of those in the 4‑H Youth Development program. By volunteering, you help grow the skills of 4-H youth to be our future leaders.

Ways You Can Volunteer:

Volunteering in 4-H is flexible and rewarding. Share your expertise and experience with youth and other adult volunteers to make things happen!

  • Judge presentations and projects
  • Lead a club

Find a Club

Find a Community Club near you, then contact the Club Leader to learn about volunteer opportunities. You can also contact Trinity 4-H Community Educator Erin Paradis at ecparidis@ucanr.edu or (530) 224-4900 to learn more.

Screening & Training

All new 4-H volunteers must go through a screening process and training course. Our #1 priority in 4-H is the safety of young people. We do all we can to protect young people and keep them safe while they are in our care. When you become a 4-H volunteer, you are part of the plan to keep our young people safe.

1. Complete the online 4-H Adult Volunteer Interest Survey

2. Submit a Volunteer Enrollment application on ZSuite

3. Complete a California Department of Justice Live Scan background check

An important part of providing a safe environment is to conduct background checks on all our 4-H volunteers and staff. Everyone who spends an extended time with our 4-H youth is screened.

The required 2024-2025 Trinity 4-H Live Scan Form and instructions will be emailed to you after you complete Steps 1 & 2.

4. Complete the online New Volunteer Course

All 4-H volunteers are required to take the online training on Extension Foundation Campus. The interactive training introduces you to the best practices used for Positive Youth Development.
