Digital Accessibility
Accessibility
Digital accessibility allows people with disabilities to access, navigate, and use digital files, and websites effectively. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), produced by W3C WAI, address barriers for people with visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, and neurological disabilities. Accessible websites provide equal access and equal opportunity for all users.
For context on how people with disabilities use the web, see scenarios of people with disabilities using the web.
Accessibility is the practice of designing products, environments, and services to be usable by everyone, regardless of disability, age, or ability. It ensures people with visual, auditory, physical, or cognitive impairments can independently access, understand, and use information, technology, and spaces.
Legal Requirements
Digital accessibility is required by law and policy in many cases. WAI Web Accessibility Policy Resources provides links to resources for addressing legal requirements within organizations.
