Who are the Master Gardeners?

Master Gardeners are community members who have been trained under the direction of the University of California Cooperative Extension. Each volunteer completed more than 50 hours of formal classroom training. Master Gardeners help the Cooperative Extension office provide practical scientific gardening information to the home gardeners of our county.

During the 2024-2025 program year, Master Gardeners contributed 5,055 total hours teaching classes and presenting in our community. That’s equal to 2.5 full-time employees! Volunteers hosted Public Education classes on a variety of topics including Firewise Landscaping, Intro to Gardening, Fall Pruning and Small Space Gardening. UC Master Gardeners also attended a total of 15 Farmers Market events across 3 cities and reached over 1,160 people at the Amador County Fair. Ask a Master Gardener helpline is staffed by a volunteer every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-1pm and answered 114 home gardening questions throughout the year. Master Gardener volunteers help grow a healthy, happy community one garden at a time!
