Rawia Tawfik is an associate professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Politics from the University of Oxford. She was a researcher at the German Development Institute/Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) in Bonn where she conducted most of her research on Nile hydropolitics. Her research interests revolve around issues surrounding African development, regional integration and resource-based conflicts, especially conflicts surrounding transboundary rivers in Africa in general and the Nile basin in particular. Her work on these issues appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals, including African Studies, Water Policy, Water Alternatives, Water International and the International Spectator.
