UC Master Gardener Presenters
- Kris Mason has lived on the coast for over 55 years and has been very dedicated to local non-profits. She is the co-founder for the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside, spent 50 years helping to organize the well known Pumpkin Festival, and volunteered at all the schools where her children and grandchildren attended. At the same time she ran her own computer graphics business. Kris is retired after working for The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, after years of assisting the Executive Chef. She did everything from purchasing and interviews to building gingerbread houses and decorating the ballroom. Now she spends her time creating watercolor paintings and gardening. As a graduate of the 2024 Master Gardener program, she spends most of her time at the Elkus Ranch Research Garden.
- Dacotah Swett is a retired high school biology/chemistry teacher who has taught botany and horticulture classes and enjoys sharing tips for specific types of plants and their requirements to thrive in some of our more challenging microclimates and conditions. She is interested in the propagation and care of a wide range of plants, from species such as moss and ferns that are the first to colonize a bare piece of earth to the stately trees that live for centuries. Houseplants, vegetable gardening, garden design and planting native species to support wildlife in our backyards are all areas of interest.
