Research Communication & Public Engagement

Connecting water and climate research with broad audiences through public engagement, digital platforms, traditional media, and accessible science communication.

CIWR researchers communicate beyond academic publications—sharing research-based information in ways that help communities, practitioners, journalists, decision-makers, and the public understand California's changing water and climate challenges.

Bringing Science Into Public Conversation

Research communication at CIWR takes different forms. Some scientists engage directly with mass audiences through media and digital platforms, while WISER develops institutional science communication products such as blogs, podcasts, webinars, videos, factsheets, and social media content.

Together, these approaches help move research from universities and technical reports into public conversations, practical decisions, and everyday understanding.

WISER Science Communication & Digital Outreach

Through WISER, CIWR translates water research and technical information into accessible content for communities, practitioners, students, and decision-makers across California.

The WISER digital ecosystem brings together blogs, podcasts, webinars, videos, educational materials, and CIWR social media.

Media & Public Engagement

CIWR researchers contribute expert commentary, interviews, public talks, webinars, and other engagement that connects current research with timely water and climate conversations.

These activities complement formal publications and Extension resources by helping research reach audiences when new findings, major events, and public questions emerge.
