About the Event

Houseplants are a wonderful addition to a home, and keeping a few practical and science-based tips in mind will ensure they provide years of enjoyment! In this talk, the basics of stewardship will be covered, including light requirements, watering schedules, fertilizing, repotting and trouble-shooting. With so many species of plants that can thrive in your home, choosing plants to suit your particular needs will also be discussed. There will be time for Q and A, so feel free to bring any questions you might have about plants already in your care.

UC Master Gardener Presenter Dacotah Swett: Dacotah is a retired high school biology/chemistry teacher, who has taught botany and horticulture classes and enjoys sharing tips for specific types of plants and their requirements to thrive in some of our more challenging microclimates and conditions. She is interested in the propagation and care of a wide range of plants from species such as moss and ferns that are the first to colonize a bare piece of earth to the stately trees that live for centuries. Houseplants, vegetable gardening, garden design and planting native species to support wildlife in our backyards are all areas of interest. She became a UC Master Gardener in 2024.
