The Intermountain Research and Extension Center is a 140-acre research facility located at 4,000 feet elevation near the Oregon border.

UC Research has been conducted at IREC since 1947. Recent progress reports are listed by crop and year on the left side navigation.

IREC sits on 140 acres of rich, reclaimed lake-bottom soil with >5% organic matter content. The Tulebasin mucky silty clay loam soil is well suited for growing potatoes, onions, cereal grains, alfalfa, peppermint and forage grasses, all of which you will find growing on the Center.

The Desert Research & Extension Center (DREC) is soliciting proposals for new research and extension projects July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Proposals should be submitted into the REC Proposal System via the Desert REC Website (http://drec.ucanr.edu/Research/Submitting_a_Proposal/).

The Research and Extension Center System (RECS) supports field research, education and extension activities by providing suitable environments including land, labor, facilities and support staff.

An annual call for proposals is announced through the UC ANR Update, UC ANR Portal, and using Collaborative Tools for existing research projects. However, off-cycle research projects are generally accepted outside the normal call for proposals (March-April) as long as space and labor are available.
