Current Pistachio Industry Problems At present, growers primarily use leaf tissue analysis to determine tree nutrient status and make fertilizer management decisions.
Objective 1: Refine sampling techniques & develop early season sampling protocol Variations in leaf nutrient status of the trees over the growing season were used to establish field sampling methodology and develop an early season sampling protocol.
Fig. 2. The LAI is function (dependent) on the spring warming. For 2006 to 2011, we see a very high correlation between the satellite estimate LAI and the Growing Degree Hours.
Second generation mobile platform light bar. Improvements have been made with higher accuracy GPS that works in dense tree canopies as well as width adjustment from 8-32. Normal speed of travel is 10-11 km/hr (6-7 mph)- at that speed we can map about 6 miles of row within 1/2 hour of midday.
The Lower Rio Grande Valley in southern New Mexico is one of the major pecan producers in the nation. Pecan is known to consume large amounts of water.
Daniel Schellengerg, Ph.D. student, at the orchard sampling site in Kern County. To compare N2O emissions from two different forms of nitrogen (N) fertilizer: urea ammonium nitrate and calcium ammonium nitrate.
Fig. 1. A schematic with soil layers and soil texture for the drip and fanjet sites. The analysis of soil texture for both the fanjet and drip sites showed that the soil profile of the studied almond orchard is highly heterogeneous and layered.
