Butterflies have such an elegant presence as they quietly glide and flit about the garden. Butterflies are beautiful creatures, but I learned that they are also valuable pollinators to the ecology, hunters for many unwanted pests and are important prey in the food chain.

Who takes images of yellowjackets? What, nobody? I don't usually photograph yellowjackets because (1) I prefer to take images of their cousins, the honey bees and (2) yellowjackets are always moving. By the time I observe one, and raise the camera, the insect is long gone.

Department's Fall Seminar Schedule Announced

The UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology's fall seminars will begin Monday, Oct. 2 and continue through Monday, Dec. 4, announced coordinator Brian Johnson, associate professor of entomology and honey bee scientist.
