By Donna Woodward, UC Master Gardener of Napa County When is a plum a prune? Short answer: When it's dried. That's what the dictionary says, but common terminology is not always so straightforward. A few years ago, I planted a plum cultivar called Improved French Prune.

A short drive around Chico's various neighborhoods will convince you that people love their front lawns. They must, because the lawn is the most prominent landscape feature for the vast majority of homes. And yet, we seldom see people outside actually using their front lawn spaces.

The highly respected California Academy of Sciences greeted its 2019 Class of Fellows on Oct. 15, and one of them is a pollination ecologist from the University of California, Davis.

Pollination ecologist Neal Williams, professor, UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology, is now a Fellow of the California Academy of Sciences, a group of more than 450 distinguished scientists who have made notable contributions to science.

At first, I thought that I would postpone this entry until I found and fixed an irrigation leak which was actually identified by the Benicia water company. It is not visible from the surface, so I was surprised. But I have been losing enough water that I have been concerned.
