Is it a Horticultural Myth?
It is easy to find gardening advice from friends and online, but how much of it is true? We will discuss topics including
- Do eggshells, Tums or Epsom Salts cure blossom end rot on tomatoes?
- Should I put banana peels on my plants?
- Is the DIY ‘weed killer’ made with vinegar, salt, and dishwashing detergent safe, effective and legal?
- Custom Myth Busting. Send me your garden topic of choice with a lead time of at least four weeks for me to prepare a customized presentation.
Everything’s a Chemical!
We should avoid chemicals whenever we can, right? Or wait, is that not quite right? Join us to increase your understanding of science in the garden.
“Natural” Pesticides and You
If we have a pest problem, we should use only natural pesticides, right? Or wait, is that not quite right? Join us to increase your understanding of managing pests in the garden.

Biography:
Dawn Standke has been a Master Gardener since 2005 and is the founder and past chair of the Earth-Friendly Gardens committee. In addition to teaching people about gardening, Dawn likes to grow fruits, vegetables, and plants that attract birds and butterflies.
Before becoming a Master Gardener Dawn worked as a computer programmer. She has degrees in computer science, math, and a master's degree in computer engineering with an emphasis on artificial intelligence. (But that was a long long time ago, when AI was very young. She likes gardening far more than working with computers!)
