Seeking new leadership for Water and Healthy Families and Communities Strategic Initiatives
ANR academics are invited to apply for Strategic Initiative leader positions, which play key roles in unifying, communicating and advocating to strengthen UC ANR's research and outreach agenda. Given the ongoing evolving role of the UC ANR Strategic Initiatives (SI), the SI leaders agreed that it would again be beneficial to conduct an open search - from across the breadth of expertise of the division - for the next rotation of SI leaders.
Open positions. Two SI leader positions are scheduled to rotate off at the end of 2018. This change offers opportunities for others to take the lead for
Who is eligible to apply? The positions are open to all UC ANR academics, including Agricultural Experiment Station faculty and Cooperative Extension advisors and specialists. Strategic Initiative leaders are appointed by the Associate Vice President on a rotating basis for three years, with a possibility of extension.

How to apply. To apply for one of the SI leader positions, complete the simple application form at https://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=25782.
Applications will be accepted until Nov. 9.
Applicants will be contacted for interviews in late November or early December. The new leaders are anticipated to start on Jan. 2, 2019.

Plan to attend the first Joint Strategic Initiative Conference
The 2015 UC ANR Joint Strategic Initiative Conference will be held October 5-7 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, 1230 J Street, in Sacramento.
Who should attend: Academics affiliated with ANR – UCCE Advisors, UCCE Specialists, AES Faculty, Program Directors and Academic Coordinators.
Submit a poster abstract to participate in a poster session. To be given priority consideration, please submit poster abstracts by June 1. For details, see http://ucanr.edu/sites/2015jointsiconference/Call_for_Posters.
At the conference, you'll have the opportunity to
- Meet the new Vice President (to be invited) at the Monday evening reception.
- Participate in planning sessions for the Strategic Initiatives.
- Learn about successful research projects.
- Take advantage of free training sessions.
- Request space for your Program Team or Workgroups to meet.
- Network at the Stakeholders' Reception on Tuesday evening.

Register for September program team meetings
Registration is now open for the Sept. 18-19 program team meetings being held at the Activities and Recreation Center at UC Davis.
Four program teams will be meeting thus far: Positive Youth Development, Youth Science Literacy, Healthy Behaviors for Preventing Childhood Obesity, and California Communities.
The program will feature the launch of a new Healthy Youth, Healthy Environment speaker series, with a keynote address by Louise Chawla, professor in the Department of Planning and Urban Design at the University of Colorado.
Participants will also hear research updates and plan ongoing program team activities.

Register for HFC conference by May 11
If you plan to attend UC ANR’s Healthy Families and Communities Strategic Initiative Conference and haven't registered, please do so by tomorrow, Wednesday, May 11. The organizers need a headcount for meals and logistics.
The theme of the conference is “Broadening and Deepening our Policy Relevance,” and it will be held May 17-19 at the ARC at UC Davis. Diana Dooley, Secretary of California Department of Health and Human Services, will be the keynote speaker.
During the registration process, academics may submit a poster title, which will be displayed during the Tuesday night reception.
Three relevant program teams will meet Wednesday night. Workgroups wishing to meet can do so after the program teams meet on Wednesday evening or on Thursday afternoon after the conference ends.

DATE CHANGE: SFS strategic initiative conference now Oct. 11-12
The Sustainable Food Systems Strategic Initiative Conference has been rescheduled for Oct. 11 – 12 at the ARC at UC Davis. More information about the two-day SFS conference will be posted at http://ucanr.org/sites/SFS as it becomes available.
California Health and Human Services Secretary Diana Dooley will be the keynote speaker for the Healthy Families and Communities Strategic Initiative Conference, scheduled for May 17 - 19 at ARC at UC Davis. More information about the HFC conference will be posted at http://ucanr.org/sites/HFC as it becomes available. The final version of the HFC strategic plan is posted at http://ucanr.org/sites/HFC/files/57631.pdf.
The Sustainable Natural Ecosystems Strategic Initiative Conference is scheduled for Sept. 20 - 22. Details, including location of the SNE conference, will be posted at http://ucanr.org/sites/SNE as they become available.
As announced in ANR Update, workgroups will be aligning under the appropriate Program Teams. The first opportunity for Program Team meetings will be in conjunction with the Strategic Initiative conferences.
