The climate in the world is intensifying, with more extreme rainfall occurring in shorter periods, alternated by longer and warmer dry periods. This is leading to an increasing occurrence of droughts, with water resources increasingly under pressure. As the largest liquid freshwater reservoir on earth, groundwater has a fundamental role in supporting adaptation in this increasingly water-limited world, and exploitation of groundwater resources has proven an effective buffer to reduce the impacts droughts have. 2024 Grant Essentials Summit – Register now!

Register. Who Should Attend: The summit will bring together UC ANR academics and staff from a wide range of disciplines, offering a grant-writing program focused on the essentials of successfully securing grant funding. Academic participation will be prioritized as space is limited. 

What to Expect: The Grant Essentials Summit will offer sessions focused on the essentials of successfully securing grant funding – learning best practices in grantsmanship, understanding funding agencies, articulating your project plans, building partnerships, and collaborating teams, and establishing relationships with agency program officers. Examples will be drawn especially from USDA and NSF, but we will also explore other funders. Participants will engage in a number of interactive exercises and discussions, including strategies for developing competitive proposals.

Presenter: Atkisson Training Group. ATG specializes in providing training on grant writing and grant skill development. Their goal is to help people initiate projects, programs, and positions with the tools needed for long-term growth and success.

Extension & Public Health: A Spotlight on Collaborative Excellence with EXCITE Virginia Team

Led by Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, the Virginia EXCITE team has been instrumental in addressing vaccine-related health disparities in rural and underserved communities. Partners included county governments, state and local health departments, United Way, and local pharmacies. The team assisted in the implementation of vaccine clinics and engaged trusted messengers to educate people in underserved communities.

For this work, the team received the National Immunization Excellence Award for "Immunization Neighborhood Champion" at the prestigious National Adult Immunization Summit.

The 14-Day Challenge is an opportunity for you to experiment with daily writing, online community and supportive accountability. It's very simple:

You commit to write every day for at least 30 minutes. At the beginning of your writing time, you login to our online community, start the timer, complete your writing, and post your progress at the end. You take 5 minutes to support other writers in your group by commenting on their progress.

This is NOT for you if: 1) you don't want to post your progress on a daily basis and/or 2) you don't want to interact with other people. UC ANR pays for your NCFDD account.

The planning committee for the 2024 National Health Outreach and Engagement Conference is now accepting proposals to present at next year's conference. The conference will be held May 13-15, 2024, and will be hosted by University of Georgia, Clemson University and North Carolina State University Extension Services in Greenville, SC.

This program will explore how individuals and organizations can become more culturally competent. Self and organizational assessment models will be presented and the various components of each stage of competence will be discussed.

This course will increase your awareness of the lives and experiences of people with disabilities. We will also focus on developing skills to create a workplace environment that is respectful and inclusive of persons with disabilities.
