4-H Fashion Revue

Sonoma County 4-H Fashion Revue is a fun opportunity for Sonoma County 4-H members to show off the knowledge, skills, and creativity they have used to create various clothing or textile related entries. The goals of 4-H Fashion Revue are to inspire an appreciation of clothing, textiles, consumer science, and personal development.

Evaluation of all categories includes value vs. cost, coordination of full outfit, knowledge gained while creating entry, presentation, overall look, versatility of entry, fit, cleanliness, complexity of skills used compared to sewing experience, and more! During evaluation, each participant is given 30-60 seconds to talk about their entry and then the evaluators ask questions about the entry.

2025 Categories

Members may enter multiple County and State Categories at the Sonoma County Fashion Revue, but a member may only have one entry per category and an entry may not be entered in multiple categories. All garment and accessory entries are to be worn by member (not created and fitted for someone else). Outfits must meet the 4-H Dress Guidelines.

2025 County Only Categories:

County Only Categories do not qualify for State Fashion Revue competition.
County Only Categories are open to all 4-H members – there are no project requirements for County categories.

Accessories: Create two or more different coordinating accessories made from any material or combination of materials including: fabric, leather, yarn, wire, embroidery floss, duct tape, seed beads, etc.

The accessories must coordinate with each other and with the outfit the member chooses to wear with the accessories. The two accessories must be different types of accessories - two hair clips do not qualify, but it can be a hair clip and a bracelet.

Entry examples: belt, purse, wallet, slippers, jewelry, hat, scarf, gloves, hatband, hair accessories, phone holder, etc. (same rules as 2024)

Anything Embellished (new 2025 rules): Creatively decorate any existing item using any variety of embellishing methods including: adding material, painting, dying, sewing, embroidering, trimming, gluing, etc. Embellished item may be a garment or any other item (hat, blanket, bag, etc.)

Entry must include a picture of the item before any embellishments.

NEW! Everything Else: Using any technique, any materials, and any pattern, create an item which does not qualify for any other county or state category.

Entry examples: doll clothes, shopping bag, garment bag, blanket, pillowcase, home décor, placemat, holiday décor, item for an animal (bed, blanket, collar, lead), duct tape jacket, etc.

Zero-Waste Challenge (new 2025 rules):  create a garment using a *pre-consumer or **post-consumer zero-waste method

*pre-consumer: use all your fabric (or skein) to create your garment(s) – with no leftover scraps!
If necessary, scraps can become accessories or embellishments. Entry must describe how all material was used.

**post-consumer: create a Trashion Fashion garment by constructing a garment using at least 75% recyclable or reused materials that would otherwise be trashed/recycled. Materials should not be new/unused for their original purpose and should not be fabric or clothing. Entry must be clean, safe, and durable. Entry must list all materials used.

*Favorite Decade, Needlework, Traditional, and Uniquely Upcycle State Categories require membership in a Clothing & Textiles or Sewing project. All other categories are open to all members.

State Fashion Revue Eligibility

Only the County Winners in the Traditional, Uniquely Upcycle, and Consumer Science Purchased, $50.00 Limit categories qualify to enter State Fashion Revue. A County may only qualify one entry from each age division in these categories to enter State Fashion Revue. If a County Winner is unable to enter State, then an alternate entry in the same category and age division will be invited to enter.

Favorite Decade, Leather Creations, Needlework, and Softie State category entries do not need to pre-qualify at a County 4-H Fashion Revue. Members may enter these directly in the State Fashion Revue or may enter State regardless of the award received at County. Multiple members from a county may enter these categories.

Members may only enter two categories at State Fashion Revue. There is no limit to how many categories a member may enter in the County Fashion Revue.

Age divisions – Age as of Dec 31, 2024

• Primary 5 – 8 years old (comments only, not scored)
• Junior 9 – 10 years old
• Intermediate 11 – 13 years old
• Senior 14 – 18 years old

Entry Forms

Entering County Fashion Revue is a two-step process which includes a Participant Form and Category Form(s). Submit one Participant Form per member and one Category Form packet for each item entered.

Online Participant Entry Form – due Monday, March 24, 2025, online by midnight. This form helps the committee determine the size of the event and allows them to communicate event information to participants.

Category Entry Forms- due Friday, April 4, 2025, on paper in the 4-H Office by 4pm (if mailing, it should arrive by April 4). Label your envelope "Attn: 4-H Fashion Revue". An alternate drop-off location is Friday, April 4, 2025, 6-7pm at the YAL Center. The evaluators use these forms. Filling out the Category Forms helps participants prepare for evaluation. Keep a copy of your forms. It is very helpful to review your category entry forms before you talk to the evaluators. Incomplete or late forms can affect a participant’s score.

Workshop(s)
Community Service Night, Workshop #1, will be held at the YAL Center in Rohnert Park on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 6pm.
Workshop #2 (possibly a 4-H Craft Night): date and location to be determined

A Fashion Revue Workshop is an opportunity to learn and practice Fashion Revue skills before the big event. We review the categories, share inspirational entry ideas, explain what happens at Fashion Revue, and help members and their parents understand the whole process. There may be a community service activity or we may create items which can be used as entries. This is a fun time to talk with other members interested in Fashion Revue. All members can participate. You do not need to enter Fashion Revue to attend.

Proficiency Pin Requirements
Sonoma County Fashion Revue offers a Proficiency Pin for members who put extra effort into their Fashion Revue participation. Earning this proficiency increases the members' knowledge about Fashion Revue topics, encourages speaking about Fashion Revue, supports community service, and promotes Fashion Revue to other members.

Knowledge Contest/Quiz
A Knowledge Contest/Quiz may be held during the morning of the Fashion Revue. No pre-registration necessary. Any 4-H member may participate. A new quiz is created each year. For a previous sample, see 2016 under Historical Information below.

Fashion Show & Awards Ceremony

While the Fashion Revue includes a Fashion Show, the Fashion Show is not evaluated! The show occurs after lunch and is a fun time for friends and family to see the members’ accomplishments.
