Bohart Open House, 'Night at Museum,' Dedicated to Jerry Powell, 1933-2023

The Bohart Museum of Entomology will dedicate its open house, Night at the Museum (formerly known as Moth Night) to the late Jerry Powell, longtime director of the Essig Museum Entomology of UC Berkeley, and an international authority on moths. He died July 8 in Berkeley at age 90.

Where Are All the Monarchs?

Where are all the monarchs? Not in our pollinator garden here in Vacaville. Milkweed? Check. Floral resources? Check. Praying mantids? No. (Haven't seen any, but they're out there!) Birds? Yes. (Nesting California scrub jays eat their fill of caterpillars, mainly Gulf Fritillary 'cats.) Shade? Yes.
