He aquí otro ejemplo de roya anaranjado en zarzamora, las cuales causadas por dos hongos, Arthuriomyces y Gymnoconia, los dos de los cuales son distinguidos por el tamaño y forma de sus esporos además de su ciclo de vida. A reiterar, infección de este roya anaranjado es limitada a zarzamora y favorecida por temperaturas frescas y humedad alta, pero todavía no he visto yo una infección de esta roya avanzar muy recio por un campo, no importa que las condiciones le favorezcan o no. En vez de esto, unas plantas por un punto central demostrarán infección de una vez e el avance del mal, si no es controlado, se mide por años en vez de días o semanas.
Roya anaranjado se distingue por la intensidad de su color y el perfil nítido de las masas de esporos (segunda foto abajo). Normalmente uno puede percibir los esporos por rascar o rasarse a las hojas infeccionadas.
Probablemente el punto más clave de manejar roya anaranjada en el campo es que este hongo es sistémico en la planta y no se puede controlarlo al medio de fungicidas registrados actualmente en el cultivo de zarzamora. Solo dejar plantas afectadas o tratar de curarlas con fungicidas terminará en tristeza. Roya anaranjada se tiene que excavar, es decir con una pala. Es mejor sacar plantas adyacentes también, así que ellas tal vez sean contaminadas a pesar de no demostrar síntomas todavía. Cuídese en remover toda la planta, incluyendo las raíces hasta por lo menos 12 pulgadas de profundidad. Se debe poner las plantas ya quitadas del suelo en una bolsa y colocar estas en la basura apropiadamente. Personas involucradas en esta obra de remover plantas infestadas se deben vestirse en ropa desechable o lavar su ropa pronto después para no difundir esporos a otras partes del campo por el trascurso de la jornada restante.
Un punto clave más es gráficamente ilustrado en la foto abajo, es que la millonaria (Senecio vulgaris) encontrada frecuentemente en los campos de zarzamora es también infestada de vez en cuando con una especie de roya, pero esta roya no es igual a la roya anaranjada y no se va de ninguna manera a su zarzamora. Royas tienden a ser específicas a sus plantas anfitrionas, y remover millonaria con el intento de reducir roya anaranjada en su zarzamora no tiene sentido.
