Being a Volunteer
Our volunteers are a key part of the 4-H Youth Development Program.
By volunteering, you are helping to grow the skills of 4-H youth to be our future leaders.
All 4-H adult volunteers must apply and be appointed annually.
Requirements to become a New 4-H Adult Volunteer
- Complete the Volunteer Interest Survey
- Create an adult volunteer profile on ZSuite.*
Please make sure the Family email address in the system is correct and one you check regularly. This email will be used for most communications and to confirm your volunteer application.
*For Spanish: The ZSuite system is only in English. You can complete the Spanish paper enrollment packet and turn it in to your club leader or county staff.
- Complete a California Department of Justice Live Scan background check
- Please contact our office at (530) 458-0570 to receive all the necessary forms and paperwork.
- New Volunteer Training
- All new 4-H volunteers are required to take the New Volunteer Training online courses, CA New ENG is the title, in the eXtension Foundation Campus system before they become approved as volunteers. This interactive training series introduces you to the best practices in positive youth development that are used in 4-H. The trainings are available in English and Spanish.
- Pay Enrollment Fee
- Enrollment Fee of $30 is paid at the club level
- Approval
The 4-H Regional Program Coordinator reviews and approves 4-H volunteer appointments.

Returning Volunteers Enrollment Requirements
- Update your ZSuite profile
- Log in to ZSuite to update your profile to enroll for the new year. Please make sure the email address in the system is correct and one you check regularly.
- Returning Volunteers Training
- You will need to log in and select the CA Returning ENG module at eXtension Foundation Campus and complete the online training.
- Pay Enrollment Fee
- Enrollment Fee of $30 is paid at the club level
- Approval
- The 4-H Regional Program Coordinator reviews and approves 4-H volunteer appointments.
