School Gardens in Los Angeles County
Los Angeles is home to many outstanding school gardens that support hands-on learning in communities working toward improved health outcomes. UC Master Gardeners can assist schools by teaching educators and students sustainable gardening practices that foster environmental stewardship and food literacy.

When combined with nutrition education, school gardens have shown to increase children's interest in the consumption of fruits and vegetables. Eating the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables is key to reducing chronic diseases, preventing obesity, and building lifelong healthy habits.

School gardens also offer valuable opportunities to enrich classroom learning. The hands-on activities can be integrated into the science, math, language arts, and social studies curricula, helping students connect academic concepts to real-world experiences.
