Use the Social Media Account content type to connect official social media accounts with a Group, organization or individual in IWP. When an account is associated with a Group, IWP can display the social media link consistently for visitors without requiring you to add social media icons manually to your pages.
Use this content type to display official social media accounts associated with your Group. If your site includes multiple programs with their own social media accounts, you can also list those accounts on your contact page using descriptive text links.
What It Does
The Social Media Account content type stores information about an official social media profile, including the platform, account handle and URL. This allows social media accounts to be connected to the appropriate Group and displayed consistently within IWP.
Common platforms include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other supported social media networks.
Social Media Account Fields
- Title (Required): Enter a clear title for the social media account. The title is used to identify the content in IWP and helps generate its URL
- Social Media Network: Select the appropriate social media platform from the dropdown menu
- Handle: Enter the account's social media handle or username, such as @UCANR
- URL: Enter the direct URL for the social media profile
- Body: Add additional information about the account when needed. In most cases, keep this content brief
- Display 'Share This' Socials on Content?: Turn this option on if you want social sharing buttons to appear on the content
Tagging
Use tags to connect the account with the appropriate UC ANR locations, programs or organizations.
- Counties: Select the county or counties associated with the account
- Programs: Select the UC ANR program associated with the account
- Research & Extension Centers (RECs): Select the appropriate Research and Extension Center when applicable
- Statewide Account: Use this option when the account represents a statewide UC ANR presence rather than a specific county or region

- Description: An optional description that provides additional context for the menu link
- Parent Link: Select where the content should appear within the existing menu structure
- Weight: Controls the order of the link relative to other items within the same menu
Simple XML Sitemap Settings
These settings are available to Group Admins and control how the content is represented in the site's XML sitemap.
- Priority: Indicates the relative importance of the content within the sitemap. The default value is 0.5
- Change Frequency: Indicates how frequently the content is expected to change
- Include Images: Controls whether images associated with the content are included in the sitemap
How Social Media Accounts Appear
Social Media Accounts associated with a Group can appear as clickable social media icons near the site's main navigation, providing visitors with a consistent way to find the Group's official social media channels.

Linking to Additional Social Media Accounts
If your site includes multiple programs with their own social media accounts, you can list those accounts on your contact page using descriptive text links. You may also include a social media link within other page content when it is directly relevant to that content.
Use the platform or account name as the link text rather than adding social media icon images within the page content.
Example:
Avoid adding social media icon images within page content. Use the Social Media Account content type for accounts displayed at the Group level, and descriptive text links for additional program-specific accounts.
