These two Saturday workshops will focus on maximizing the health and production of fruit trees through proper pruning. We’ll cover the basics of pruning fruit trees, present more intermediate topics, and answer your questions about pruning fruit trees. The workshop covers the basics of pruning fruit trees, including:

  • Why we prune
  • When to prune
  • Basic cuts
  • How much to prune
  • The tools to use for pruning

Saturday, November 6, 2021 - Part 2:   9:00 am via Zoom

In Part 2 we’ll expand on topics covered in Part 1 (both programs will be recorded and posted online for viewing). In this session, we’ll begin with a brief review of basic pruning techniques. Then we’ll focus on several critical topics that people raising fruit trees often encounter.

  • What to do with brand-new trees
  • Pruning young trees
  • How to prune overgrown trees

This 2020 workshop is offered in 2 parts, the first was presented November 7, 2020 and Part 2 on November 14, 2020.

November 7 - Part 1

During the first session of this 2-part workshop, the basics of pruning fruit trees will be covered, along with some more advanced pruning topics. Master Gardeners will be there to answer your questions about pruning fruit trees. The workshop covers the basics, including:

  • why we prune
  • when to prune
  • basic cuts
  • how much to prune
  • the tools to use for pruning

November 14 - Part 2 

In this second session of the fruit tree pruning workshops, the information covered in session one (November 7th) will be expanded to focus on several critical topics that people raising fruit trees often encounter. In this session, we’ll focus on: 

  • We’ll begin with a brief review of basic pruning techniques.

Then we’ll dive into several common fruit-tree challenges:

  • what to do with brand-new trees
  • pruning young trees
  • how to prune overgrown trees
  • the role of pruning in treating infested and diseased trees
