Returning Adult Volunteers
Contra Costa County 4-H
Welcome back! Thank you for continuing to support youth in Contra Costa County 4-H.
This page explains how returning volunteers renew their appointment and remain active for the new 4-H program year.
Annual Volunteer Re-Appointment
All 4-H adult volunteers must be re-appointed each year.
To continue volunteering for the next program year, you must complete the re-appointment process before December 31.
If the process is not completed by that date, you must stop all 4-H volunteer activities beginning January 1 until your appointment is renewed.
If a volunteer does not renew for an entire program year (July 1 – June 30), this is considered a break in service.
Who Should Use This Process
Follow these steps if you:
Are currently a 4-H adult volunteer
Plan to continue volunteering in the upcoming program year
Have not had a break in service of one year or more
Step 1: Confirm Your Volunteer Role
Before starting the renewal process, contact your club leader or county 4-H office to confirm:
Your volunteer role for the coming year
The projects or activities you will support
Clear communication with your club leadership helps ensure projects and meetings are planned effectively.
Step 2: Renew Your Enrollment in ZSuite
All returning volunteers must renew their enrollment using the ZSuite online system.
When renewing:
Log in using the same email address used in previous years
Do not create a new account
Update any personal or contact information
Confirm your club and volunteer role
Using the same account ensures your previous records remain connected to your profile.
Step 3: Complete Returning Volunteer Training
Returning volunteers must complete the Returning Volunteer Training course in the Campus Extension learning system.
This course introduces best practices used in the California 4-H program and reviews policies that support youth safety and positive youth development.
The course typically takes about 50–55 minutes and does not need to be completed in one sitting.
Training topics include:
CANRA training for volunteers (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act)
After finishing the training, your completion will be recorded as part of your volunteer approval process.
Important Communication Reminder
The household email address listed in ZSuite is the primary way the 4-H program communicates with volunteers.
Please make sure the email address in your account:
Is correct
Is checked regularly
If you do not receive confirmation emails, contact the County 4-H Office to verify your information.
When Your Re-Appointment Is Approved
After completing the required steps:
The County 4-H Office reviews your renewal
Your volunteer status is updated to active
You may continue volunteering in your club and projects
Please allow time for the county office to process approvals.
Thank You for Your Service
4-H volunteers play a vital role in helping youth grow as leaders, problem-solvers, and community members.
Your continued commitment helps make these opportunities possible for young people across Contra Costa County.
