Many California farms are open to the public to tour, learn, taste, and purchase farm-fresh products. The California Open Farm Passport is a collaborative project with regional partners offering Open Farm events showcasing the diversity of their region's agricultural producers. Flowers
Flower farms are a vibrant sector of California’s agricultural industry. Small-scale flower farms offering pick-your-own, often accompanied by workshops such as flower arranging and wreath making have been popping up around the state.
Pastures of Grace Farm in Northern California’s Siskiyou County offers Dahlia U-Pick events during the season; sales fund their mission to support young women by offering life skills on a working ranch. Pastures of Grace is a participant in the California Open Farm Passport as a part of Siskiyou Farm Co.’s Harvest & Bloom event.
Lavendar
California’s Mediterranean climate is well-suited to grow lavender. Lavender farms can be found in Northern and Southern California. Many family-owned lavender farms are open to the public offering tours, workshops, photography sessions, and pick-your-own.
Bees N Blooms lavender farm and nursery in Santa Rosa hosts many events and educational workshops throughout the lavender session, including an annual Lavendar Bloom Fest. Bees N Blooms is a participant in the California Open Farm Passport as part of Sonoma County Farm Trails’ Weekend Along the Farm Trail.
Olives
Originally brought to California by Spanish missionaries, olive trees can be found in many regions around the state that have a Mediterranean climate ideal for growing olives. Many family-owned olive farms are open to the public to tour the groves, learn about how olive oil is produced, and sample and buy olive oil.
Next time you are on California's Central Coast, stop by The Groves on 41 in Paso Robles to tour, learn, and taste. You can even stay on the property's farm house! The Groves on 41 is a participant in the California Open Farm Passport as part of SLO County Farm Trail’s Open Farm Weekend.
Stone Fruit
Hundred’s of stone fruit varieties are grown throughout the state of California. There is no shortage of festivals and fruit trails celebrating their bounty. Many family-owned stone fruit orchards are open to the public, selling their fruit at farm stands and offering U-pick opportunities.
Brazelton Ranch in Vacaville sells multiple varieties of apricots, nectarines, and peaches at their farm stand during the season. Brazelton’s is a participant in the California Open Farm passport as part of Pleasants Valley Agricultural Association’s Open Farm Day.
