Iron and manganese bacteria in water can form a filamentous growth which can lead to emitter clogging.  The source of the iron bacteria is often a well which has been contaminated during the well drilling process.  In addition to the slimy, filamentous deposits produced by the iron bacteria, there is often a swampy or rotten organic matter smell associated with the presence of iron bacteria.

Treatment for iron or manganese bacteria often entails: Treating the well and/or Treating the microirrigation system.
