UC Cooperative Extension will present "Guidelines for Managing Oak Rangelands" in a series of seminars on the Web, followed by a field trip in April.

Oak woodlands cover 10 percent of California and are the state's most biologically diverse broad habitat. With 80 percent of oak woodlands on privately owned land, continued sustainability of these resources is in the hands of private individuals.

This webinar series is designed to create an awareness of the importance of managing oak woodlands and to present alternative management strategies for landowners to consider. It will present concepts in the University of California?s publication, "Guidelines for Managing California?s Hardwood Rangelands." All registered participants will receive a copy of this book.

Anyone involved in research, education, management and conservation of oak woodland ecosystems should participate. This includes landowners and managers, consulting range managers and registered professional foresters, community and conservation groups, land trusts and policymakers.

There will be four 2-hour sessions broadcast on the Web on March 15, 22, 29 and April 5 followed by a full-day (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) field trip.  Participants may choose one of two field trip options: April 16 at Sierra Foothill Research & Extension Center in foothills northeast of Sacramento or April 30 at Hopland Research & Extension Center on the North Coast. All webinar sessions will start at 10 a.m. PST and run through noon. The webinars will be recorded for participants who are unable to attend the live session.

The $25 fee covers handout materials and administrative costs. The URL for the webinar will be sent to registrants.
