Pest management and specialty crop field day targeted to small-scale growersSeptember 29, 2000
A UC Cooperative Extension field day Oct. 11 provides Central Valley small-scale growers the latest findings from research being carried out on Asian vegetables, squash, tomatoes and broccoli at the UC Kearney Agricultural Center.
The field day features a tour of the research plots and an overview of the 2000 summer growing season.
The tour will cover:
Culture and pest management of Chinese long beans, water chestnuts, artichokes, green beans, lemon grass and edamame by UCCE farm advisor Richard Molinar and his assistant Michael Yang
Squash pest management by UC Davis entomologist Charlie Summers and UC Integrated Pest Management plant pathologist Jim Stapleton
Coldframe and flat solarization demonstration by Stapleton
Fresh market tomato growing systems by Summers and Stapleton
Squash virus resistance and broccoli insect management by UCCE farm advisor Manuel Jimenez
The tour departs from the parking lot at the Kearney Ag Center, 9240 S. Riverbend Ave. in Parlier, at 8 a.m. and returns at 12 noon. No advance reservations are necessary.
