Grapevine Red Blotch Disease

GRBD is a vector-transmitted viral disease of grapevine disease that affects pH, sugar and phenolic accumulation (Blanco-Ulate et al. 2017; Girardello et al. 2019) & ultimately reduces wine quality. Grapevine red blotch virus (GRBV) is the causal agent of Red blotch disease (GRBD).

Check out our Grapevine Red Blotch Disease Visual Identification Training Tool to gain experience differentiating red blotch disease from Leafroll, spider mites, and potassium deficiency.

This tool was designed to test the ability of visual symptom identification and is intended as a learning tool for those who visually assess symptoms in the vineyard. Molecular diagnostic assays should always be used to confirm visual assessments. If you use assistive technology and would like more information on this tool, please contact anraccessibility@ucanr.edu for assistance.
