Step into a hidden gem above the City. The new rooftop garden at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1333 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, is now open for you to explore. Discover an impressive diversity of plants and innovative gardening techniques with help from experienced UC Master Gardener volunteers, who are available Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Enjoy personalized tours, plant identification support, and discover all the ways you can connect with the UC Master Gardener program. Feel free to take a self-guided tour during regular business hours.
Wander among five themed raised planting beds dedicated to: culinary plants, lawn alternatives, succulents, pollinator/habitat plants, and climate resilient plants. Scan the QR code posted throughout the garden to instantly access a searchable plant list and uncover the garden secrets. Two innovative passive solar chimneys blend in with nature's beauty. With more than 500 plants, 50% of which are California natives, this rooftop garden is a must-see.
The UC Master Gardeners of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties, working alongside with the city of Redwood City, have created and will maintain this thoughtfully designed garden. Visit the new helpline office on Thursdays between 1:00pm and 4:00pm for expert gardening advice and stay tuned for educational workshops and classes launching in the fall of 2026.
