The new Veterans Memorial Building (VMB) Senior Center located at 1333 Madison Avenue in Redwood City will be open to the public on June 8, 2026, which includes a rooftop garden with five raised beds that will be maintained by the UC Master Gardeners of San Mateo and San Francisco Counties in conjunction with the City of Redwood City. The themes of the five raised beds are: (1) Culinary, (2) Succulents, (3) Lawn Alternatives, (4) Pollinators/Habitat, and (5) Climate Resilient. The new Helpline Office will also be on the rooftop. Educational workshops/classes will be offered in the future, possibly starting in the fall of 2026. Two of the beds contain passive solar chimneys which occupy the center of each bed, yet leave plenty of planting area. Come visit and enjoy the garden on Mondays through Fridays from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
