Because the elm tree in the Demo Garden has a competitive root system, shade, and aphids that drip sap, the original California native plant installation wasn’t thriving. We adapted our vision of this area and replaced the plantings with containers to show that California native plants can be grown in containers just like any other plant. And we focused on California native plants that can be easily purchased in Placer County.
