UC ANR Strategic Initiatives
UC ANR research and outreach is organized into five Strategic Initiatives. Drawing on members of the wider UC ANR community and beyond, the Strategic Initiatives help people connect and help them identify and address issues of current and emerging importance. Research and outreach activities within each Strategic Initiative are conducted to unify, communicate and advocate for the work we do.
The current leaders of the five Strategic Initiatives are:
| This Initiative safeguards our food, resources, and communities from pests and diseases through prevention, control, and mitigation. | This initiative is dedicated to food literacy, healthy lifestyles, scientific literacy for youth and adults, positive youth development, and community development. | This initiative is focused on sustainable food production, safe food processing, and enhanced access to nutritional food. | This initiative is promoting the preservation of forests, rangelands, and wetlands by prioritizing healthy landscapes, fire protection, and water supply. | This initiative works to protect clean and safe drinking water supplies, sustainable surface water and groundwater resources, and holistic water management. |

Workgroups are our most foundational units, operating as Communities of Practice where people plan, connect, and implement. Program teams bring people together at a slightly higher level than Workgroups. Program Teams help connect people who work on related though commonly distinct programmatic areas. Within the five Strategic Initiatives the following Program Teams and Work Groups are currently active:
