The University of California, a land grant university, supports local 4-H programming across California. From the center of the city to the acreage of Wilton, Sacramento County 4-H brings learning alive to over 1,800 youth in 4-H club, camp and afterschool science education programs.

Sacramento County 4-H has four expanded learning programs: 4-H On The Wild Side, 4-H Water Wizards, 4-H Youth Experiences in Science (YES), and 4-H Cooking Academy.

Outdoor activities in 4-H range from science projects such as rocketry and astronomy, to shooting sports, sports and gardening. Many counties offer outdoor exploration projects to take advantage of learning in the diverse outdoor landscape in California.
