Who We Are and What We Do

UC Master Food Preserver volunteers are agents of the University of California and work through the UC Cooperative Extension to educate the community on the safe practices of food preservation.

The UC Master Food Preserver Program’s mission is to keep Californians safe and well as they use culturally appropriate, research-based practices to safely preserve food in the home, reducing food waste, increasing food security, and providing engaging ways for Californians to explore healthy food.

At fun, often free classes, we teach you step-by-step methods to preserve food at home:

  • Boiling Water, Steam and Pressure Canning
  • Dehydrating and Freezing
  • Pickling and FermentingBecome a Master Food Preserver
