Small Acreage Landowners

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)

As HPAI is currently (January 2025) moving across California, we want to encourage everyone to increase their biosecurity to reduce the risk.  If you notice any signs of disease, as always, contact your veterinarian.  While we have not seen HPAI in any other animals in California other than dairy cows and birds, it has been documented in other species.  Remaining cautious on biosecurity is not only important now, but should be every day to reduce the risk of diseases transferred to your animals.

For more information about biosecurity, please be sure to watch Dr. Alda Pires recorded talk on this website focusing on outdoor swine production here.  Or Dr. Pires other resources on Biosecurity and Webinars for further resources.

Disclaimer

As a service to California small acreage landowners, links are provided to Cooperative Extension sites and universities and colleges that provide information on a variety of relevant topics. Because these sites are not a part of the UCCE or ANR system they may change and links may occasionally not work as their web masters make changes.

California small acreage landowners should also remember that information from other states may not be applicable or, in some cases, legal in California.

Additionally, these resources are provided to support small acreage landowners in noncommercial operations and may not have adequate information to guide management decisions in commercial operations.
