The Volunteer Management System (VMS) is an online system designed and built by UC ANR Communication Services and Information Technology. VMS is used by UC Master Gardener volunteers and coordinators to track and manage time (hours), projects, newsletters, documents, and photo albums.

The statewide office, in partnership with the UC Master Food Preserver Program, hosted a Brown Bag Webinar on the VMS 3.1 preview and launch timeline. Watch the VMS 3.1 Brown Bag Webinar on YouTube (62 min).

VMS Login

VMS access is connected to a coordinator or volunteer's UC ANR Portal username and password. Volunteers can log in through a UC ANR Portal account or directly through the Volunteer Management System.

Full-access and roster VMS administrators can reset a volunteer's password by following these steps:

  1. Select "Roster."
  2. Click the "Admin" button.
  3. Find the volunteer's name.
  4. Select the pencil icon to edit the volunteer's profile.
  5. Enter the new password in the "Change Password" section.

Note: Passwords are case sensitive, must be at least seven characters in length with no spaces, and must contain a number or special character.

The VMS User's Guide was developed for volunteers and VMS administrators to assist with daily administration and operation of county-based VMS systems. The guide covers site overview and step-by-step instructions at both the volunteer and administrator levels for key features and functions. The guide is updated continuously as the system is refined.

Annual Volunteer Reappointment

UC Master Gardeners must be reappointed by their County Director annually to continue in their roles as agents of the university. Volunteers are independently and personally responsible for meeting all administrative requirements necessary to secure reappointment by correctly submitting the Annual Volunteer Agreement and Request for Reappointment, either through VMS or using paper documents, and meeting all other associated requirements.
