Adult Volunteer Enrollment
Our volunteers are a key part of the 4-H Youth Development Program. By volunteering, you help grow the skills of 4-H youth to be our future leaders.
All 4-H adult volunteers must enroll and complete ongoing training annually.
New volunteers
At 4-H, the safety and well-being of young people is the top priority. Becoming an approved 4-H volunteer requires a structured screening and training process.
1. Find a club
Visit the 4-H Clubs page to find a club near you. You can also contact the 4-H office for help choosing a club:
- Phone: (209) 966-2417
- Email: jewbrown@ucanr.edu
- In person: UCCE Mariposa office, 5009 Fairgrounds Road, Mariposa, CA 95338
Once you've identified a club you're interested in, reach out to the club leader to learn more about available volunteer opportunities and the projects the club offers.
2. Screening
All new volunteers are required to complete the following screening steps to become an approved 4-H volunteer.
Complete the 4-H Volunteer Interest Survey
The survey is available in English and Spanish.
Create an Adult Profile in ZSuite
Create an Adult Profile in the California 4-H enrollment system. Use a current email address that you check regularly; this email will be used for important communications and to confirm your volunteer application.
Spanish-speaking volunteers who prefer paper enrollment can complete a paper enrollment packet (Spanish) and submit it to their club leader or 4-H County Staff, who will enter the information into the system. Keep a copy of the forms for your records.
Complete a Live Scan background check
All volunteers working with youth must pass a background check conducted by the California Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Please contact the local 4-H office to request the current Live Scan form and processing instructions. This ensures you have the correct version and current information.
3. Complete New Volunteer Training
All new 4-H volunteers are required to complete the online New Volunteer Training through the Campus system before becoming approved. This interactive training series introduces the best practices in positive youth development used in 4-H. Courses are available in English and Spanish.
If you do not already have a Campus account, you will need to create one. The enrollment key for Mariposa is "Mariposa" (case sensitive).

4. Pay the enrollment fee
Pay your enrollment fee through your club.
5. Approval
The Community Education Specialist reviews and approves 4-H volunteers only after all of the following are complete:
- Submission of the 4-H Volunteer Interest Survey
- Enrollment in ZSuite
- Successful completion of the Live Scan background screening
- Completion of all required New Volunteer Training for Mariposa County
- Payment of the enrollment fee
Once you're approved, welcome to the 4-H family.
Returning volunteers
4-H has grown in California because of the dedication of our volunteers. Some have supported the program for 10, 20, and 30 years or more.
All 4-H volunteers must re-enroll annually. If you are a current 4-H adult volunteer and want to continue in the next program year, you will need to re-enroll, complete the returning volunteer training, and pay the annual enrollment fee.
1. Re-enroll in ZSuite
Log in to your existing ZSuite account to submit a new enrollment for the new program year. Do not create a new profile. Email addresses are case sensitive. If you have trouble logging in, contact the 4-H office at (209) 966-2417.
If you prefer to re-enroll on paper, download the form in English or Spanish and email it to jewbrown@ucanr.edu, or drop it off at the UCCE Mariposa office at 5009 Fairgrounds Road, Mariposa, CA 95338.
2. Complete Returning Volunteer Training
Complete the online Returning Volunteer Training in the Campus system and obtain your certificate. The enrollment key is "Mariposa" (case sensitive).

4. Approval
After all requirements and mandatory trainings are completed, the Community Education Specialist will review and approve returning volunteers.
Volunteers with a break in service
If you are a volunteer who has had a break in service during a program year, or if you had an enrollment that was not fully approved in ZSuite, your enrollment will be processed as a new volunteer. You will be required to complete all new volunteer requirements, including the screening and onboarding steps.
