For many urban farmers, starting plants from seed can save money and increase production. The following resources provide technical information for how to cultivate nursery plants or grow all-year in a greenhouse. Some urban farmers sell nursery products (for example, vegetable, flower and herb seedlings), and if so, they should contact their County Agricultural Commissioner. A California License to Sell Nursery Stock may be required, however, some small growers may be exempt. In either case, an application is necessary and County Agricultural Commissioner’s office is the place to start.
