The Integrated Web Platform (IWP) is UC ANR's web platform, built on Drupal. IWP modernizes the UC ANR web presence, makes educational content more discoverable, and improves the experience for staff, researchers, educators, and the public.
Getting Started
IWP launched March 24, 2025. Editors should log in at ucanr.edu — not the Portal or the staging environment URL "live-cag."
Any changes made in Site Builder or the old Blog system after February 25 must be redone in Drupal, including file uploads.
Note: IWP is not a content archive. To archive old content, contact Emily Lin about the UC Merced CARA archival project.
About Drupal
Drupal is a modern, flexible content management system used by universities and organizations worldwide. It provides UC ANR with:
- Improved content organization — a taxonomy system that enhances content discoverability across the site
- Better searchability — content structured for improved search engine optimization, making it easier for the public to find UC ANR resources
- Consistent presentation — content types provide templates for various kinds of content, ensuring a uniform look and feel across the UC ANR web presence
- Scalability — built to handle large volumes of content and traffic as UC ANR grows

Site Builder and Blogs Transition
Site Builder and Blogs have been retired and replaced by Drupal. Key differences include:
- Sites and blogs are now managed in a single interface in Drupal
- Content is created using pre-defined content types rather than freeform pages, allowing for better organization and discoverability
- Tags and taxonomy are maintained by a governance group to ensure consistency across the site
- Starting a new site requires an approval process to reduce duplication and ensure content is on-brand and manageable
