Tips to Smooth Migration Process

Tips to Optimize Layout for Migration

Here are 4 steps to streamline migration and help make your site more usable immediately after migration. In general, it's easier to make adjustments in Site Builder now, rather than devise a "fix" in Drupal/IWP later.

1. Remove multi-column layouts. Our new template in IWP only supports single-column layouts. It is easier and more predictable to fix this in Site Builder before migration. This is a common issue in home pages. This can be modified in the "Page Settings."

CAUTION: Before changing your page from a multi-column layout to a single-column layout, be aware that if you change your mind, your page will not go back to your original multi-column layout. This is true for all four Site Builder Themes.

2. After converting to a single-column layout, the order of your content may not be what you expect. Adjust the page content so that the Assets are shown in the desired order.

3.  Remove tables that are being used to create complex layouts. These tables are not recommended in IWP and they should be removed. In IWP, a table’s role is to display tabular information. You may have unexpected results if layout tables are migrated. Simple layouts will be easier to adjust to suit your unique needs after migration.

4.  Some Site Builder "Asset" types will no longer be embedded on your page after migration. If you want the public to continue to have easy access to any Surveys or Blogs that are included on your pages as an "Asset" (that is, they show up on the page directly without clicking on a link) you must add an explicit HTML link to the actual Blog or Asset in one of the "Text" Assets on the page.

For example, if the ANR Food Blog is displayed on your page, you could add text such as “Visit the ANR Food Blog here: https://ucanr.edu/blogs/food/ “ or better still, like this: “ANR Food Blog”. This is the same way you would link to UC IPM. You can add these links to any existing "Text" Assets or create a new one.

Please note: The new IWP site is not a one-to-one replacement of Site Builder content and there will be differences in how things appear. After completing the above steps, there may still be some differences in your page after migration.
