Fire-Smart Landscaping for the East Bay: A Three-Part Series

- Format: FREE webinar series for landscaping professionals
- Description: Join UC Cooperative Extension and collaborators for a three-part virtual series for East Bay landscaping professionals interested in working with clients on defensible space. Each session will have a different focus. In session 1 (June 9), panelists Dave Winnacker (Berkeley Fire Department), Yana Valachovic (UC Cooperative Extension), and Jessie Godfrey (UC Cooperative Extension) will discuss location- and structure-based fire risks as well as science-based policies and practices to mitigate fire risk through landscaping. In session 2 (June 16), landscaping professionals will have the opportunity to engage with each other as well as with other professionals working to reduce fire risk in the East Bay, including fuels management professionals and researchers. In session 3 (June 23), landscape architect Emily Schlickman (UC Davis) will help to trouble-shoot common challenges and showcase ways of navigating challenges that have come up during or between the previous sessions (all participants are encouraged to contribute photos and stories starting now!
