4-H Youth Take to the Sky

This past summer, Santa Clara County 4-H and UC Cooperative Extension hosted our first-ever AFA2 SkyMappers Drone Camp, introducing teens to how uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), remote sensing, and GIS technology are transforming modern agriculture. Using the research-informed SkyMappers curriculum, participants learned everything from drone safety and FAA regulations to autonomous flight missions, photogrammetry, and digital mapping. Building on this success, we’re excited to launch our first Drone Project Workshop Series this program year! Returning Drone Camp alumni are invited to join as Teen Instructors, sharing their knowledge and helping guide new participants through hands-on drone and mapping projects that address real-world agricultural and environmental challenges. Presented by UC Cooperative Extension and the 4-H Youth Development Program of Santa Clara County, this workshop will continue empowering youth to explore STEM, leadership, and sustainability—taking learning to new heights!
