#27 Baseball Field Workout
Instructions
Congratulations, you found a UC 4-H Community Adventure Challenge!
Your challenge today is to do some exercises while learning about baseball. Learning new things helps to keep your brain growing, and a big brain makes for a great explorer!
These adventures are located all around Yolo County (a complete list of locations can be found on the navigation bar on the left).
Below are directions for how to complete this fun activity. You may choose to do all three levels of difficulty, each is a little different. Select which level you would like to try first.
Select any of the baseball fields to start practice on.
There is also an activity you can do at home below.
1. Review the positions on a baseball field using this image:
2. Start at home base.
3. Run to first base. Once you are there, do 10 jumping jacks.
4. Run to second base. Once you are there, do 10 squats.
5. Run to third base. Once you are there, do 10 lunges (5 on each leg).
6. Run back to home and rest for one minute. After you are done, repeat as many times as you can!
7. How many times were you able to do this exercise? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
1. Search the park for a small object that you can throw (like a baseball).
2. Check your phone for a measuring app (on an iphone it is found in the “Extras” folder). Download a measuring app if you do not have one already installed.
3. Stand on the pitchers mound (see diagram above if you are unsure where that is).
4. Guess how many feet you will be able to throw your object.
5. Throw the object using an overhand throw. Follow the picture diagram below to learn how.
6. Guess how many feet away the object landed.
7. Measure the distance using your app. Were you close to your guess?
8. Try again, both guessing and measuring.
9. Repeat several times. What was your farthest throw?
10. How far do you think it is from the pitcher's mound to home plate? Measure to see if you are correct.
1. This activity is guided by an audio file. As you play the audio file, you will be instructed to go to different locations on a baseball field.
2. You may want to review the diagram if the positions on a baseball field are new to you.
3. Select which field you will play on, then click this link.
4. The file will open as a YouTube web page.
5. You then click on the triangle in the box to play the file as if it were a video (but you will not see anything).
6. To pause the audio when instructed, click on the 2 parallel vertical lines in the center of the box.
