#2 Lamp Post Course
Instructions in English
Congratulations, you found a UC 4-H Community Adventure Challenge! Let's have some fun!
Your challenge is to locate all of the lamp posts in the park as quickly as you can. Keen observation skills and quickness are key characteristics of an Adventurer!
These adventures are located all around Yolo County (a complete list of locations can be found on the navigation bar on the left).
Below are directions for how to complete this fun "Lamp Post Course" activity. You may choose to do all three levels of difficulty, each is a little different. Select which level you would like to try first.
There is also an activity you can do at home below.
If you prefer to watch a video of the beginner level instructions, click here.
- Look around the entire park for lamp posts with a circular base (see image below).
- Count all that you can find. How many are there?
- Type your answer into the comments section below.
- Grab a timer, or use the one that is pre-installed on your smartphone.
- Touch all the lamp posts as fast as you can (see image above)! What was your final time?
- Take a quick break and then try it one more time. Did you get any faster?
- Write your quickest time in the comments section below.
- The lamp posts have numbers on them, about midway up.
- Your challenge is to run and find two specific lamp posts (see image above), as quickly as you can. If you are with someone, you may want to challenge them to a race.
- Start your timer.
- Go find #309 and #296 on the lamp posts.
- How fast can you do it? Post your time below in the comments.
MORE FUN AT THIS LOCATION
While you are here, be sure to check out this giant game structure that lights up and plays music while you run around and try to tag the pads and beat it.
Try an interval walk! Every time you walk past a light post, change your stride to a new movement. Alternate who selects the next move so everyone gets a chance to be the leader. Here are some movement ideas to get you started (but get creative and think of other ways to move as well):
-lunges
-walking on tip toes
-walking backwards
-spinning
-skipping
-kick walks
-marching
-frog jumps
-walking side squats
-hopping
-long jumps
-pretending to fly
-pretending to swim
-pretending to roller skate
LOCATION (for those without a smartphone)
Woodland. Pioneer Park. On the west side of the park is a gravel path off of the main cement path. You will find the sign hidden in a tree.
