ANR Colleagues,
Please join a special two-hour digital accessibility training via Zoom, 2-4 p.m. on Jan. 15, with guest speaker Sharon Goldrup, corporate accessibility trainer and curriculum design manager for Deque Systems.
As we previously announced, all University of California locations are required to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA by April 2026 as part of UC’s systemwide commitment to equity and inclusion. This means that every digital product — from websites and PDFs to presentations, forms, videos and emails — must be usable by people of all abilities.
To help ANR employees comply with the new digital accessibility regulations, we will devote the regularly scheduled town hall time this month to learning how to improve ANR’s digital accessibility.
In this session, we will experience the digital world through a new lens.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
“Accessibility Awareness for Everyone” is a dynamic two-hour virtual session designed to build shared understanding around digital accessibility and the diverse ways people interact with the web.
In this session, participants will:
- Hear real lived experiences from a trainer who uses assistive technology every day.
- Watch a live demonstration of navigating the web with a screen reader.
- Understand how common digital practices can support or hinder accessibility.
- Engage in an interactive Q&A to deepen understanding and build inclusive awareness.
This training goes beyond concepts and simulations. Participants will learn directly from a native screen-reader user and accessibility experts, offering an authentic, firsthand perspective on how people with disabilities navigate digital environments. Through personal storytelling and a live demonstration using assistive technology, participants will see how design decisions can open doors or create barriers.
For ANR employees who are unable to attend the live Zoom session, a recording will be available. A link with instructions on how to access the recording will be emailed after the town hall.
This session is ideal for everyone, regardless of role or technical proficiency. Together, we’ll build a foundation for creating more inclusive digital experiences across ANR.
