As a follow-up to our earlier communication regarding the temporary internal hire prioritization process implemented in response to the SNAP-Ed funding loss, we want to provide an update as we prepare to transition back to our standard open recruitment requirements. The temporary internal-priority process will conclude at the end of December.
Recruitments that are posted on or prior to Dec. 31, 2025, will continue to follow the temporary process through completion. For all recruitments posted after Jan. 1, 2026, we will resume our standard open and competitive recruitment practices, as required of state-funded organizations. Internal applicants will continue to be encouraged to apply and will be fully considered based on qualifications and alignment with the position needs.
As a reminder of the internal prioritization process:
- Internal and external applicants will be reviewed to determine if they meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
- Qualified internal applicants will be interviewed before any external candidates.
- If an internal candidate is qualified and aligns well with the position needs, they can be hired prior to considering external applicants.
- If no qualified internal applicants are identified, the recruitment process will proceed with external candidates.
We appreciate everyone’s adaptability during this period and remain committed to supporting staff through these organizational changes. If you have questions about how this transition affects a specific position or recruitment plan, please reach out to humanresources@ucanr.edu with any questions.
